Another Wild Hare Idea for adding actual movement to turnings - and trying to get the "viewer" to be an active participant - and including a subtle surprise. This one uses the kid's toy Tight Rope Walker idea.
Here's a pretty basic animation of how this thing might work. Watch the finial and notice that it always stays vertical.
Rethinking the "rigging", copper pipe and fittings would probably make for working out most of the details of the support system for the tight rope.
