This WAS a piece of split walnut fire wood that's now seven 3/8 ths inch book matched mini-boards and some scraps for the fireplace. (You've got to save some to appease the fire gods.

Better give you some perspective on the size of these things. Here's the stickered pile. Couple of months and they'll be dry enough to use.
Now go have a look at your wood pile. And the next time you see some mini-logs on the side of the road, at least consider stopping and having a look. There are little treasures just waiting to be rescued from the fireplace or the local land fill.
