- Connnecting using Gnome-ppp
KPPP comes with the KDE Networking package. It is an excellent and easy to
set up dialer. Also note, you don't have to be running KDE to use this program
(although you must be in an X Window environment).
- From your favorite terminal, just type kppp then press enter.
- When first launching Kppp, there are a number of steps that have to be
run through before it is useable.

- Click the Setup button.
- Click on the Accounts tab.

- Click the New button.
- Click on the Dial tab.

- In the Connection Name box, type a name for this connection, such
as NeoSoft.
- In the Phone Number
box, type your local dialup number.In the Authentication drop down list, select PAP.
- Click on the IP tab.

- Put a dot next to Dynamic IP Address, then click on the
DNS tab.

- In the Domain Name box, type neosoft.com.
- In the DNS IP Address box, type 209.237.0.8, then click
the Add button.
- Again in the DNS IP Address box, type 209.237.0.2,
then click the Add button.
- Click on the Gateway tab.

- Put a dot next to Default Gateway, then click on the Login
Script tab.

- Make sure all of the boxes on this page are empty.
- Click on the Accounting tab.

- Make sure Enable Accounting is UNCHECKED.
- Click the OK button.

- You should now see the new account in the list.
- Click on the Device tab.

- In the Modem Device drop down list, select the correct modem.
- In the Flow Control drop down list, select CRTSCTS.
- In the Line Termination drop down list, select CR.
- In the Connection Speed drop down list, select the speed of your
serial interface. We recommend you set this one notch above your modem's
maximum transmission speed (i.e. 56k modems set to 57600 and 33.6k modems
set to 38400).
- Put a check next to Use Lock File.
- Click on the Modem tab.

- Here you will find everything you need to tweak and query your modem.
- In the Busy Wait box, you can specify the number of seconds your
modem waits before redialing if you get a BUSY signal.
- The Modem Commands button allows you to customize the pre-defined
commands, such as your init string.
- The Query Modem button allows you to query the information
registers of your modem then displays them in a nice fashion.
- The Terminal button allows you to bring up a window that allows
communication directly with the modem's controller.
- Click on the PPP tab.

- Here you can adjust your personal preferences.
- Click the OK button.

- You should now see your new connection listed in the Connect To
box. Type in your Login ID (your username) and
password, then click the Connect button to
connect.

- After a few seconds, you should get a windows stating that you are
connected.
